Biography
Professor Ir. Dr. Abdul Latif Ahmad is a distinguished Malaysian academic and engineer specializing in membrane technology, wastewater treatment, and separation processes. He was born on January 4, 1967, in Selangor, Malaysia. Dr. Ahmad completed his education at the University of Wales, Swansea, UK, where he earned a B.Eng., M.Sc., and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering between 1987 and 1995. He has been serving as a professor at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) since 1995, holding various leadership positions, including Dean of the School of Chemical Engineering and Director of Nexus Engineering.
Over his career, Dr. Ahmad has made significant contributions to his field, authoring over 540 journal articles with a Scopus H-index of 72 and receiving numerous prestigious awards, such as the Merdeka Award 2014 and being named one of the World's Most Influential Scientific Minds by Thomson Reuters in 2014. He is also a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the Institute of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) in the UK.
Dr. Ahmad's research focuses on advancing membrane technologies for applications in environmental and industrial processes, securing over RM 34.5 million in research grants. He is actively involved in various professional organizations and continues to mentor the next generation of engineers and scientists
