About University
Fiocruz's proposal to expand its presence in the national territory consolidated, in 2009, the establishment of the Fiocruz Technical Office in Rondônia, located in Porto Velho, the state capital. Legally known as Fundação Oswaldo Cruz Noroeste, Fiocruz Rondônia incorporated the Institute for Research in Tropical Pathologies, IPEPATRO, an institute directed by the late professor Luiz Hildebrando, inherited and expanded its activities in applied and epidemiological research activities, advanced training and qualified resources human resources, provision of services, assistance and health surveillance. Marked by its insertion in the Western Amazon, Fiocruz Rondônia fills regional gaps, working in infectious and parasitic pathologies, biotechnologies and vectors that transmit diseases of importance to public health.
The expansion and sustainability of Fiocruz Rondônia's activities constitute a milestone in the transition to its own building (under construction), when Fiocruz will be able to expand its operations, further contributing to the reduction of regional inequalities and inequities in the health field and science and technology.
